Molly’s Home Gym:

I started setting up a home gym 20 years ago. It housed a bench press, two 3kg dumbbells, a skipping rope, and a step-up board, all purchased from Rebel Sport. When I got home from shopping, I organised an area in my spare room and placed my radio on a table with my towel and water bottle.  “That looks good, I thought; I closed the spare room door and set my alarm for 5 a.m. the following morning!” 

My alarm sounded. I rose in my PJs, opened the door of my spare room, and started my tailored home gym workout! I still remember the moment today. It was just fabulous!  I didn’t have to wear earphones, get dressed, shower, or even find gym clothes!

Being a shift worker, finding time to get to the gym or get organised to arrive there was taxing!  My home gym allowed me to train in my PJs or underwear! I didn’t have to compete with the slim, well-toned ladies who paraded their bodies in the latest fitness activewear. I just had to be me. I set a goal to lose 2 kg. Just 2kgs, I said to myself! “Surely that can’t be hard”? Anyone who has tried to lose weight knows that 2 kgs are hard to knock off. It is not easy! Today, My Home Gym Now Consists Of The following:

  • Weightlifting equipment: 2kgs, 3kgs, and 5kgs.
  • Dumbbells, Barbells, and Weight plates for strength training exercises.
  • A Treadmill.
  • A Black Lord-Weight Bench Press
  • A Rowing Machine.

As you can see from the list, it has grown! I love my home gym, and my spin bike brings me joy and pleasure. I was like Bridget Jones when I first started using my spin bike. Ha ha, my legs were like jelly after only just 2 minutes.  But now I can spend 30 minutes watching my favourite show on Netflix on my iPad and getting fit. I also love my rowing machine because it helps build my fitness levels by working my legs, back, and shoulders and allowing various cardiovascular workouts.

The Pilates reformer is my favourite fitness equipment in my home gym. Reformers are highly regarded equipment that provides a comprehensive workout that simultaneously targets multiple muscle groups.
